Lume, a young Albanian person. They have short dark brown hair, and are wearing a camo vest, white t-shirt, and checked pants. They are sitting outdoors with a craggy mountain behind them, smoking a cigarrette.ALT
Mark, an older Albanian person standing outdoors among what appear to be apartment buildings in a rural town. They have very short, grey hair and they're wearing a dark suit. They are holding a rosary wrapped around their hand and gazing off to the right of the frame.ALT

Known as Albanian sworn virgins or burnesha, people like Leme (left) and Mark (right) practice a traditional Albanian custom that allows someone assigned female at birth to assume a male gender role by taking a vow of chastity. This tradition has been an accepted part of Albanian culture for centuries.

So can feel these women’s joy. Watching them play brought a lightness to my heart that I legit needed this morning. Read this article and watch the short video (I think it’s 27 sec)

I am still smiling

Featured Article: Dead Dove: Do Not Eat

image

[ID: The words ‘Featured Article’ in bold, comic-style font superimposed on a cartoonish explosion. /End ID]

This week’s Featured Article is about everyone’s favorite fanfiction tag, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat! In 2015, Tumblr user mostlyvalid proposed this tag as a way to warn readers when a fanwork is intended to “roll around and wallow” in potentially problematic tropes. The phrase comes from a meme referencing a 2003 Arrested Development episode.

Since it started being used a fanfiction tag, Dead Dove: Do Not Eat! has gone through different meanings and iterations; it has also led to a lot of discussion and disagreement over the “correct” usage of the tag. What do you think the tag means? Come add to the Fanlore page!

Etoiles Appreciation Week!

image
image

This is a fan-run event that celebrates Etoiles and all he does. Prompts for this are centered around the QSMP though creations are not limited to QSMP.

Tracking: #etoilesweek

I will be tracking the tag up to two weeks after the event is finished, so don’t be pressured to post on the correct dates. Open to questions if you have any! (this is a repost)

It starts next sunday, two days from now.
